You may well have noticed a veritable clutch of online bingo companies trying to get some exposure on the old gogglebox. First there's that cheeky chappy in the form of the Northern purple-suited fox sponsoring Jeremy Kyle. Then we had Redbus sponsoring ITV2 Daytimes which has recently been replaced by Tasty Bingo; not so much of a leap however, as both are owned by parent company 888 Holdings.
I think online bingo companies see television advertising as a way to drift into players consciousness. One of the most successful and high profile campaigns has been Tombola's on-going sponsorship of rural soap, Emmerdale. The campaign is a particularly clever one, as it uses real players to promote the site. Coupled with the fact that it's at the start of ITV's peak schedule, gives the site a real shot of publicity. The TV ad market, whilst still sluggish is showing some signs of life. ITV recently announced that advertising bottom lines were improving. Coupled with the fact that industry regulator Ofcom recently agreed that commercial channels could include product placement in programmes - is it only a matter of time before we see Emily Bishop logging-on for a flutter?
